How the Tables Turn – Sohaib Saeed

Drawing from Islamic scholars such as Fakhr al-Din al-Razi, and the modern Tunisian exegete Muhammad al-Tahir Ibn ‘Ashur, Dr Sohaib Saeed reflects on the importance of understanding and interpreting the Qur’an.

Through his translation of Imam al-Razi’s work, Dr Saeed provides a detailed exploration of the story of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) highlighting its interpretations, theological insights and parallels with the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Dr Saeed underscores the layers of interpretation and the challenge of comprehending God’s will, emphasising the need for patience, inquiry, and spiritual growth when grappling with profound theological questions.

Drawing upon Islamic scholarship, Dr Saeed highlights themes of divine wisdom, monotheism, and submission to God’s will. He concludes with reflections on the transient nature of worldly desires, underscoring the significance of spiritual fulfilment.

This lecture was delivered on 20 January 2024,  along with two others,  as part of our Tea Over Books event: “Sovereignty & the Divine”.
