As part of his UK Tour 2025, Cambridge Muslim College had the honour of welcoming Shaykh Abdurragmaan Khan, a prominent South African Islamic scholar, currently serving as the Mufti of the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) of South Africa, for a special visit during his brief stop in Cambridge.

Shaykh Abdurragmaan arrived at the College ahead of Dhuhr prayer and was warmly received by Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad, along with staff and students. After sharing lunch in the College dining hall, he was given a tour of the college campus, where he was able to meet with students and gain an insight into the College’s teaching environment.

Shaykh Abdurragmaan then delivered a special talk, which was attended by staff, students, and members of the academic team. His talk explored the concepts of integration and assimilation within the context of diasporic Muslim communities and delved into the lessons British Muslim communities may be able to glean from South African Muslim communities and their increasing prominence within the mainstream. Following the talk, Shaykh Abdurragmaan opened the floor to a lively Q&A session with the students, responding to questions on contemporary challenges facing young Muslims, the importance of consistency in devotional life, and reflections on his own journey in sacred knowledge.

Shaykh Abdurragmaan’s presence reminded many of the global nature of sacred scholarship and the importance of maintaining ties across regions and traditions. It was a privilege to welcome him to the College, and we are grateful to him and his team for making the make time for this special encounter amidst a nationwide tour.
