This week, Dr Belal Alabbas, Lecturer in Islamic Studies at Cambridge Muslim College, delivered a captivating lecture on the theology of one of Islam’s most revered scholars, Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl al-Bukhārī (d. 256/870). Known for compiling the Sahīh al-Bukhārī, one of the most authoritative collections of ḥadīth, al-Bukhārī’s theological insights remain a cornerstone of Islamic thought.

Dr Alabbas’s lecture explored the profound theological contributions of al-Bukhārī, elucidating his approach to ḥadīth authentication, his understanding of Islamic doctrine, and his lasting impact on Islamic scholarship. The seminar was part of CMC’s ongoing series of research seminars, convened each term in partnership with the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge.

The discussion provided attendees with an opportunity to delve into the intersection of Islamic theology and hadith sciences, offering a fresh perspective on al-Bukhārī’s intellectual legacy.

This was the final research seminar of this term; sessions will resume in the next term. To learn about the topics covered in Term 1, visit our Research Seminar Series webpage.
