HOW

STEPS

  1. Fold sides towards centre
  2. Fold corners
  3. Fold corners again
  4. Fold edges towards centre
  5. Press down evenly
  6. Invert the Ark slowly

WHY

This exercise is of course meant to be fun, but it is actually deeply connected to our theme of “Building an Ark”, focusing on themes of

    • Patience
      This was one of the key traits that Nuh (as) embodied when delivering the message to his people. So be patient as you build.
    • Care
      We know that Nuh (as) loved his family, and his people and wanted them to be saved. So don’t forget to HELP someone around you so they aren’t left behind in their building.
    • Trust
      At the final step of your build, requires another key characteristic from Nuh (as);s life. Tawakkul. When inverting the origami ark, have trust that it will work out and not rip; just be patient and take your time. After all, Nuh took 950 years.
    • Value
      Lastly, Once you have built it, take it home, put something you value, something that gives you life. Nuh carried all living beings with him. What are the small things you value that give you life? Maybe a pen, a tasbih, a coin, anything that fits – and share it with us by email or social media (#BUILDINGanARK) and tell us what you’ll be taking on your Ramadan journey.

Ultimately the ark represents carrying/caring for all living beings, embodying patience, acting according to Allahs’ guidelines, and leaving the rest to Allah. May your Ramadan be flooded with life affirming actions for yourself and others.
