Cambridge Muslim College is pleased to share that Dr Ramon Harvey, Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies, was recently invited to present his research at the international conference Maturidiyya – The Doctrine of Tolerance, Moderation and Knowledge, held in the historic city of Samarqand, Uzbekistan on 29–30 April.

The conference brought together leading scholars, researchers, and religious figures from across the Muslim world to explore the rich intellectual tradition of the Maturidi school of theology.

While in Uzbekistan, Dr Harvey had the opportunity to visit several significant historical sites linked to the legacy of Imam al-Maturidi and Central Asia’s broader Islamic scholarly heritage. He also held in-depth discussions with fellow scholars, senior ʿulamāʾ, and representatives of the Imam Maturidi International Research Centre based in Tashkent.

This visit reflects Cambridge Muslim College’s ongoing commitment to fostering meaningful academic exchange and building relationships with institutions of learning around the world. It is hoped that this engagement will lead to further opportunities for collaboration and research, especially in areas where Islamic intellectual heritage can offer insight into the pressing challenges of our time.
