Admissions for our Classical Arabic programme – formerly known as Arabic Abroad – will be opening in due course. Delivered on-site in Cambridge, this new and improved full-time, one-year programme offers students a robust introduction to the fundamentals of Classical Arabic, laying the groundwork for linguistic mastery. It serves as the essential first step in the journey toward fluency, preparing students for the deeper, specialised study offered in our BA(Hons) in Islamic Studies programme.
After completing 3 terms of study in Cambridge, students will have the chance to travel to a language institute in an Arabic speaking country during the April of 2026 for 4 weeks. Although an optional undertaking, the international trip will be an invaluable opportunity to consolidate their learning through immersion in an Arabic-speaking environment.
Furthermore, in-line with the College’s drive to provide students with the opportunity to achieve international recognised qualifications across academic programmes, students undertaking the Classical Arabic programme from September 2025 onwards will achieve a CEFR-level B1 qualification upon successful completion of the programme.
Please note, this programme is specifically designed for prospective students of our BA (Hons) in Islamic Studies. However, we also offer a limited number of spaces for external applicants who are not applying to our BA (Hons) programme but wish to study the Classical Arabic language and achieve the associated learning outcomes.
Spaces are limited. To learn more and register your interest ahead of admissions opening, please visit our Classical Arabic programme page.
