The Great CMC Apple Bakeoff 2025 returned for its second year to rescue the College’s annual apple harvest from a rotten fate on the lawn and turn it into something spectacular. Staff and students rose to the occasion, producing pies, puddings, chutneys and crumbles for the Apple Appreciation Panel, guided by Chef Latif’s expert taste.
After careful deliberation, the crowns went to Ashaari (Sultan of the Sour Apples), Halima (Sultana of the Sour Apples), the Suez Brothers, and Farida with her now-legendary Apple Chutney and Cheese Tray. More than a competition, the Bakeoff put into practice a timeless Islamic principle: that nothing should go to waste – especially when it can be baked, shared, and enjoyed in good company.
